MTU Students Bring Family Engineering to K-8 Students in Grand Rapids, MI

A group of Michigan Tech students conducted a Family Engineering Night for hundreds of eager students and their parents/caregivers at Harrison Park K-8 school in Grand Rapids on Monday, November 25th. The MTU students are part of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers student chapter at Michigan Tech University in Houghton.

Family Engineering is Great for Title One Programs

Title One Coordinators at elementary and middle schools in Eugene, Oregon have been busy planning Family Engineering events after receiving training on the program last spring, hosted by the 4J School District Title One Program. Family engagement is a key element of Title One programs and schools and districts often have designated funds to provide family programs. Family Engineering is a fun and exciting way to bring families together and get parents involved in their child’s education.

Partnering with Family Engineering Promotes Statewide STEM Education

Megan Schrauben, Integrated Education Consultant with the Michigan Department of Education’s Office of Education Improvement and Innovation, presented the Family Engineering program to the Michigan Manufacturing Institute’s Manufacturing Talent Summit on October 24 in East Lansing, MI. The presentation was an example of how to use partnerships to deliver an innovative STEM program statewide to promote STEM careers to K-12 students in Michigan.
